In my previous post, I lamented my promotion flops, especially at Facebook. I entitled that post "Promotion Blues." I said that I might give Amazon Ads another go, and I did, this time with a "Sponsored" ad. In this type of ad, I have to try to think like a reader/shopper and type in the search words ("key search words") a reader or shopper might type in when browsing for a possible purchase/read. You can list up to 1,000 key search words. A group at Facebook averages 300 key search words per member on their ads. I placed 100 in. Next, I had to type in a "bid per click." In other words, how much was I willing to pay each time someone clicked on my ad? I started mid-low for a few days with no results, then gradually edited it upward. At my cost per day, I am losing money, but earlier I paid yet made zero. This time, my losses are so far negligible because I'm selling some...And more each day.
So, am I in the pink? Financially, I wouldn't and won't quit my day job yet, but the feeling is very rosy indeed. Three days ago, BLOOD SACRAMENT ranked slightly over 1,000,000 in the Paid Kindle Store. I was in the top one million! Yippeeee! I was ahead of something like five million other schmucks! But after working with the daily cost and price per click, I sold a few and moved to 50,000.
I'm not sure what the answer is, but I believe I'm in Amazon ads (AMS) to stay...for a while, at least. I'm thinking about doing another daily (at $1 per day) ad on Facebook, merely directing clickers to this site, and as my call for action, asking them to sign up on the Contact page in exchange for free newsletter updates and free chapters of previous works and works-in-progress. More on that later.
Speaking of which, I need to get back to my work-in-progress, which is becoming more fun each page to write, and that bodes well for the reading experience!
